No, not just weed, it had caught a shrimp

Progressed to eat the shrimp

After seeing it fly by a few times over a few days, today it finally perched so I was able to take some photos.

It even disappeared and came back with a shrimp.

Also saw other birds today at the Vale Pond including Little Egrets, Red Shanks, Reed Warblers and a Grey Heron.

Would not like to be a small bird with a Sparrow Hawk about!! 

This ringer brought the bird for me to see. 

Grande Pre - How do Swallows drink?

These House Martins or Small Swallows drink while flying over a pond of water and scooping up the water.
